Tail-Waggin’ Winter Fun: Dog Sledding in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec
Mont-Tremblant has plenty of activities to keep you and the family busy for your entire vacation, whether you visit during the winter or the summer.
If you have chosen a winter trip, one of the most exciting activities of all is dog sledding. Here’s a guide to dog sledding in Mont-Tremblant so you can plan your trip when you arrive.
Fun for All the Family
Dog sledding is a fast and furious activity that will see you control your own team of dogs as they charge at up to 20 mph along prepared trails. It’s lots of fun, and it’s easy to do because you don’t need any previous experience. It is suitable for any age, but younger children should be accompanied by an adult.
As well as being fun, it is a great way to explore the area. You can travel further and faster than you can by foot, and it is also peaceful because you are not traveling in a vehicle or on a snowmobile.
There is nothing like having your own team of dogs take you along the snowy trails in the Mont-Tremblant National Park and seeing the beautiful scenery rush past.
Clothing: What to Wear when Dog Sledding?
Dog sledding is great fun, but you need to prepare properly and that means wearing the correct clothing. If you are not actually driving the sled, you should wear warm clothing, which means a snowsuit, gloves, hat, and boots.
It’s usually a good idea to wear layers. This should include an inner layer, preferably a synthetic material, to help keep you dry, a second insulating layer such as a fleece, and a third waterproof and windproof layer.
Ski goggles are also useful if it is snowing or windy.

On this tour you can drive the sled, and each sled holds one driver and up to two passengers. You will be greeted by the leader and will get to meet the dogs.
You will learn the basic commands, and you will then be off on the mountain trials, heading up and downhill and through the valleys.
The forest adventure is another option. This will take you through the forests of the Laurentian Mountains, down numerous descents, and it is the perfect way to explore the snowy forests.
Another option is the Diable adventure, which will take you through more valley trails and pine forests.
On all the trails, you will be accompanied by a professional guide. You will be taught the controls to drive the sled, and you will meet your dogs and find out their names. You will usually stop off at some point to take pictures and visit a traditional Yurt for hot drinks.
This is a winter activity and it does not run from March onwards. Most of the trails last about an hour, and you should reserve your place in advance.
