Travelling by air can be a fast and fun way to travel. But as an electronic cigarette user, you need to be mindful of the rules regarding this type of travel and your e-cig, as well as its accessories.

Air Travel with an Electronic Cigarette

Permitted Smoking Areas

This means that, when you are in the terminal or on the plane, your e-cigarette must not be used. Designated bar areas that are outside, as well as other smoking areas, should be the only places that you use your e-cigarette.

Some outside spaces, such as directly outside the airport or while waiting to board the plane, may also be restricted areas, so you will need to double check signs or ask airport staff before attempting to use your electronic cigarette.

Luggage

There are rules regarding what you can and cannot pack in your hold luggage when you travel by plane. Items such as e-cigarettes and portable chargers should be kept in your hand luggage only.

This differs from some items, such as hairdryers or tablets, which may be kept in either your hand or hold luggage. This may also involve keeping any accessories, spare batteries, liquids, and coils within your hand luggage too, so that you do not risk having your hold baggage checked, and to speed up the process.

Going Through Security

When you use air travel, you will need to go through security clearance, as will your hand luggage. Your e-cigarette will need to be placed in a tray for this, as opposed to being left in your bag.

Your accessories and liquids will also need to be placed in this tray too. As per the rules regarding liquids, you need to make sure your e-cig liquids are in containers of less than 100ml, and many airports want these to be placed within a separate, clear plastic bag.

Once you have completed your security check, you will be allowed to put your items back into your hand luggage bag and commence through to the departure lounge, where you can then freely buy more items, including liquid, should you so choose.
