The D117 south of Quillan in the south of France goes along the Aude river, which cut the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys, stunningly beautiful.
At the same time, I can think of few places as pretty to drive as just about any country road in the south of France, with rolling hills of vineyards and garrigue punctuated by picturesque villages, with mountains rising in the distance.
Hi Megan – such a great post! I never think of traveling through Europe by car but this makes it so tempting. I love your infographics as well!
Wow, these are gorgeous roads. I think I have driven a couple of them but I should redo them, just to make sure!
Those really do look like epic road trips to explore in Europe and I haven’t done any of them. So these all definitely go on my list of places to do.
This is a pretty useful post for anyone who wants go for a roadtrip across Europe. I would love to experience a scenic drive across Switzerland.
These are really scenic drives. I did a drive from Edinburgh to Isle of SKye and it was quite scenic as well. Scotland is just really beautiful.
I learned that I really enjoy roadtrips, you have control over your time and I love it most when it’s a scenic drive, and you can stop whenever you want ( well, given that you won’t cause any accidents) for a photo Op.
I’d love to drive through Switzerland, although I’d probably want to stop every 5 minutes for photos, haha. The Italian road looks a lot like a famous road we have here in Romania, called Transfagarasan.
Loved the infographics. They are a great way to capture information. Road trips are really exciting and if these are on the roads of Europe, it is an experience of a different level altogether. We traveled around Switzerland and much of Europe by train, would love to do some road trips now.
