Dear LGBTQI Travelers: These Countries Will Recognize Your Same Sex Marriage #LoveAlwaysWins

Dear LGBTQI Travelers: These Countries Will Recognize Your Same Sex Marriage #LoveAlwaysWins

Ever since same-sex marriage was legalized in the Netherlands in 2001 (props to the Netherlands for always being at the front of progressive change), the legalization of same-sex marriage has snowballed throughout the world.

28 countries (26 with another two pending) now legally recognize the right for same sex couples to marry, so if you’re part of the LGBTQI community, and want to travel, live overseas, or plan a destination wedding, these countries will recognize your right.

More than 760 million people now live in countries where same-sex marriage is legal, and I encourage all travelers to support those countries at the forefront of equality and recognition of human rights. I also have one thing to say to my own country, in a slogan they coined: Australia, where the bloody hell are you?

How to Self Drive the Canadian Rockies: A 5 Day Itinerary From Jasper to Banff

How to Self Drive the Canadian Rockies: A 5 Day Itinerary From Jasper to Banff

About a year ago a message popped up on my Twitter feed. It said that all national parks in Canada will be free in 2017 to mark its 150th anniversary. Home to some of the most incredible scenery in the world, I immediately started planning my trip.

I rented a mid-size car from Edmonton for less than $80 a week. It was about a 4-hour drive to the entrance of Jasper National Park. Now, I’ve done a few amazing scenic drives in my lifetime, like the Pacific Coast Highway along the California coast, Hue to Hoi An in Vietnam, and Lisbon to Algarve in Portugal. But with exhilarating vistas of forest, craig, glacier, ice Fields and wildlife, the drive from Jasper to Banff takes out the top spot on my list. It’s easily one of the most beautiful drives in the world.

The following is a rough 5-day itinerary. If you’re thinking of a self drive adventure through the Canadian rockies, I encourage you to follow this route.

For the Modern Traveler to Victoria B.C. – Delta Victoria Ocean Pointe Hotel Resort & Spa

Vancouver Island and its beautiful city of Victoria would be our introduction to Canada as we made our Pacific Coast Voyage from San Diego to Anchorage. We had heard so many wonderful things about the Garden City that we had to make time for a stop on our itinerary. The city is sprinkled with beautifully landscaped parks, a lively and entertaining harbor, abundant history, and great weather. Even after just a few short hours we were already captivated by its charm.

It isn’t always easy for a destination to live up to its hype, however Victoria is one of a very few which did not disappoint. What we weren’t expecting however was the delightful introduction to Delta Hotels & Resorts which is based in Canada from coast to coast.

We were not expecting such a young and modern feel from Victoria after having heard so much of its long history and old world charm, however Delta Victoria brings the city up to date with every modern convenience that is a must in today’s day and age.

Hotel Review: Impressed by The Fairmont Empress

Hotel Review: Impressed by The Fairmont Empress

With over 100 years of history and a guestbook which includes the names of Kings, Queens, Emperors, and much of the Hollywood Elite, the Fairmont Empress in Victoria B.C. reigns over the city like the mightiest of any Monarch. With it’s famous green ivy walls symbolic of Vancouver Island’s rugged wilderness that surrounds the city, you are greeted with pure royal elegance once you step through its doors.

I have always dreamed of what it would be like to be Queen. Which little girl hasn’t. I would switch lives with Kate Middleton in a heartbeat, and I live vicariously through the decadent lives of the world’s most famous royals through various shows which grace the small screen.

I have taken my fair share of castle tours, Windsor, Buckingham, Neuschwanstein, and although these give you a glimpse of how the royal families have lived and continue to live, they fall short of giving you the feeling of being treated as a royal. Enter the Fairmont Empress.
