Experience Gold Rush History in California

Experience Gold Rush History in California

Among American travelers, there’s a perception that if you want to experience history, you have to go to Europe. Europe is after-all a much older continent than North America, with historic sites that pre-date the existence of the USA by hundreds, if not thousands of years!

But that doesn’t mean American history isn’t worth exploring, and one of the most fascinating periods was the California Gold Rush, when citizens of the world descended on California seeking fortune through mining.

It was the success of Irish miners during those years that gave birth to the phrase ‘the luck of the Irish.’ California is a great destination even if you’re not going there for a history lesson, but if American history is your thing, there’s a whole host of exciting and interesting Gold Rush-related sites for you to partake in.

This is our guide to the best of them.

Fun Things to do in Orlando That Aren’t The Parks

Fun Things to do in Orlando That Aren’t The Parks

Orlando is in an interesting position when it comes to holiday destinations. Most people know the city is synonymous with vacations, but when push comes to shove, few people go to Orlando for the sake of visiting.

Most tourists come to Orlando for Disney’s many theme parks (which is not a bad thing, as the parks are truly amazing!), however there are many other sites worth seeing and doing in and around Orlando.

It’s worth noting that both Orlando and South Florida in general are very tricky when it comes to transport, and getting around almost always requires you to have access to a car. The distance between attractions can be shockingly huge, and public transport is often not enough.

We highly recommend booking a rental car in Orlando, and once you have that all sorted, you can map out an itinerary with the following fun things to do!

Dear Americans: How to Find the Best Credit Cards for FREE Travel!

Dear Americans: How to Find the Best Credit Cards for FREE Travel!

We often joke that I married my husband for the credit card rewards. He’s American, I’m Australian, and a definite perk of our marriage was that it came with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card! Don’t get me wrong, we have credit card rewards programs in Australia, but when compared to the rest of the world, the free travel offered by American credit cards is on steroids.

American credit cards offer an insane amount of rewards points which can be redeemed for free travel, and not only do these points accrue as you go about your normal spending, most cards offer particularly ridiculous sign up bonuses. The Chase Sapphire Preferred, for instance, gives you a sign up bonus of 60,000 rewards points which equates to $1,000 of free travel just for signing up. Our Marriott card gives us free hotel stays just for being a member.

Travel hacking through credit card rewards is a real thing, and you can literally travel for nothing. But the trick is knowing which cards to get.

And for that? We use Travel Freely; a free app that lets you organize your credit cards, track rewards points, and makes personalized recommendations, telling you exactly which credit cards are the best for free travel! It’s seriously amazing.

Miami International Airport: the Parking Crisis

Miami International Airport is Miami’s most important source of revenue. It generates billions of dollars every year by catering to the needs of millions of travelers.

Being that MIA is one of the busiest airports in the world, the fact that they are expanding shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. The plan is to spend the next five – fifteen years carrying out renovations that will make the airport leaner, more efficient to travel through.
