UK Travel: Adventure in Keswick & The Northern Lakes

England’s Lakes District is a landscape of breathtaking beauty, and as with any region of natural wonder and awe, the best way to truly experience it is to get outdoors and explore. Lake District WaterSports

Opportunities for watersports are everywhere in the Lake District, and travelers to this are can choose from from canoeing and sailing to windsurfing and diving; your choice of water based activities is truly limitless.

Community outdoor swimming events, including the Great North Swim, are open to all to attend, and learn to water-ski or sail are popular pastimes among visitors. Though if you’re after something a little more relaxing and less hands on, cruises are available throughout the Lake district so why not consider a scenic boat trip instead.

Cruising on Lake Windermere is a fantastic choice as this is the largest lake anywhere in England.

Off Road Experiences

The Lakes District is perfect for an off road driving adventure, and this is a fabulous way to view the region at a different angle!

Guided off road adventures and expeditions are designed for all skill levels from complete beginners to experienced 4×4 drivers on various journey’s off the beaten track through the Lake District National Park.

Be driven on an 8 wheeled skid steer, amphibious all-terrain vehicle around natural obstacles in a real life roller coaster ride…or bring your own 4×4 and take on the challenging rough and rocky off road terrain on a gripping journey with a spectacular lake and mountain backdrop.

Flying and Paragliding

If you’re looking for the thrill of taking control of a plane or simply a scenic flight to take in the views, Berrier Airfield is right near Penrith/Ullswater/Keswick, and one of the most adventurous activities in the is to register for a Gyrocopter Trial Flight and unique flying lesson.

Within minutes you will be flying through the incredibly beautiful valleys and around and sometimes over the mountains of the Lake District. And, for an extra thrill, the modern, state of the art twin seat Gyrocopters have an open cockpit!

With dual controls, once airborne you can choose to take control of the Gyrocopter for yourself, or just simply sit back and enjoy the view.

Hiking in Great Langdale

Home to some of the Lake District’s most iconic hikes, fellwalkers from all over the world make a pilgrimage to Great Langdale for the chance to tackle the Langdale Pikes; a spiky chain of hills on the valley’s northern side.

The Crinkle Crags and Bowfell are a more challenging circuit for more experienced hikers looking for a greater trek.

Aim to arrive early as the official car-parks fill up fast, however worst case scenario, there are often extra spaces available in nearby fields

Go Ape in Whinlatter Forest Keswick

The highest Go Ape course in the country, Whinlatter Forest Keswick will have you winging through the lush green forest via tree-top high wires, with breathtaking scenery which extends all the way to Scotland!

3 hours of adventure for all ages, this is a tree top adventure which features wind-in-your-face zip wires at 360 metres above sea level. It is England’s only true mountain forest, allowing you to fly down zip-wires, leap off a Tarzan Swing and tackle tricky crossings whilst enjoying some of Britain’s most breathtaking scenery.

After your adventure completes you can then get off road and enjoy an additional forest adventure with the Go Ape Forest Segway – an awesome segway experience in the Lakes with a down to earth twist.
