With the elevator out of order, we took a deep breath of refreshing mountain air and began the lengthy climb to the top of North Carolina’s Chimney Rock.
We reached the rock’s summit 30 minutes later to a view which took the rest of our breath away.
With spectacular 75 mile panoramic views over Lake Lure, hiking trails for all ages, guided rock climbing, and a 404-foot waterfall (Hickory Nut Falls), Chimney Rock State Park is recognized as one of the Southeast’s most iconic outdoor attractions.
Scenes from ‘Dirty Dancing‘, ‘The Last of the Mohicans’, and ‘The Hunger Games‘ were filmed here, and the Park often works with the NC Film Commission and other film authorities in coordinating film projects.
We visited Chimney Rock before spending the evening at the Biltmore Estate and took in Brevard’s Land of Waterfalls in the afternoon. Rates to enter the park were $15 for adults and $7 for youth ages 5-15.
Chimney Rock is located 25 miles southeast of Asheville on Highway 64/74A in Chimney Rock, NC. Directions here.

A stunning part of the world.
Absolutely love North Carolina – such a beautiful State!
Megan, that was quite a climb! Cardio for the day, sorted. :D The views were worth it, I bet.
I know!! I better have lost weight after the climb lol – but yes, views were totally worth it!
That view from that first photo is absolutely gorgeous!!I had no idea North Carolina was so green and hilly!
We had no idea either! It was an incredibly welcomed surprise. Highly recommend road tripping through this area if you have the opportunity – best way to see the State :)
