  1. The D117 south of Quillan in the south of France goes along the Aude river, which cut the Gorges de la Pierre-Lys, stunningly beautiful.

At the same time, I can think of few places as pretty to drive as just about any country road in the south of France, with rolling hills of vineyards and garrigue punctuated by picturesque villages, with mountains rising in the distance.

    • Thanks for the tip on the D117 south of Quillan – will have to rent a car when we get to France next! And plan some extra time to leisurely drive around the south :)

  2. Hi Megan – such a great post! I never think of traveling through Europe by car but this makes it so tempting. I love your infographics as well!

    • Thanks Elizabeth! Europe by car is an awesome way to travel – definitely consider a roadtrip if you have the chance :)

  3. Wow, these are gorgeous roads. I think I have driven a couple of them but I should redo them, just to make sure!

    • Return trips are the best because you get to combine old memories with discovering new things you missed on the first trip :)

  4. Those really do look like epic road trips to explore in Europe and I haven’t done any of them. So these all definitely go on my list of places to do.

    • Glad we could inspire a couple of additional trips for your bucketlist :)

  5. This is a pretty useful post for anyone who wants go for a roadtrip across Europe. I would love to experience a scenic drive across Switzerland.

    • Thanks Gokul! Hope you have the chance to visit Switzerland soon :)

  6. These are really scenic drives. I did a drive from Edinburgh to Isle of SKye and it was quite scenic as well. Scotland is just really beautiful.

I learned that I really enjoy roadtrips, you have control over your time and I love it most when it’s a scenic drive, and you can stop whenever you want ( well, given that you won’t cause any accidents) for a photo Op.

    • Edinburgh to Isle of Skye is an incredible drive for sure – we did a Scotland bus tour, but I would love to get back with a vehicle myself.

So glad you’re a fan of roadtrips too! My favorite way to travel – so easy and hassle free, and we really enjoy stopping for different photo opps :)

Happy travels Karla! Maybe see you on the road!

  7. I’d love to drive through Switzerland, although I’d probably want to stop every 5 minutes for photos, haha. The Italian road looks a lot like a famous road we have here in Romania, called Transfagarasan.

    • Haha yes Switzerland definitely has that effect! Maybe factor in a couple of extra hours for photo opp stops when planning the drive :D

I’ll have to check into Transfagarasan in Romania – we’re looking for inspiration for our next trip so appreciate the tip!

  8. Loved the infographics. They are a great way to capture information. Road trips are really exciting and if these are on the roads of Europe, it is an experience of a different level altogether. We traveled around Switzerland and much of Europe by train, would love to do some road trips now.

    • Glad you enjoyed the infographic! I really like taking in information in a visual way :)

Totally agree that road trips are an experience on a totally different level to other travel – there’s so much freedom, and opportunity to truly immerse yourself in the landscape. You see more of the country that way too.

Hope you have the chance to plan a return trip soon!
